Musetti holds off Jarry to reach the second round!
Lorenzo Musetti is turning a corner.
Semi-finalist at Wimbledon and bronze medallist at the Olympic Games, the Italian made a successful return to competition on Tuesday.
Up against a Nicolas Jarry in his prime, the 22-year-old demonstrated the progress he has made in recent weeks, winning in 3 sets (4-6, 7-6, 7-6).
Despite being pushed around by a Chilean who was solid on serve (13 aces) and very effective on his first shots (42 winners, 14 unforced errors), the Transalpine didn't let himself be put off, keeping his back when he had to, then raising his game perfectly in the match's two tie-breaks.
The winner after almost 3 hours of a match in which he won fewer points than his opponent, Musetti will meet Frances Tiafoe in the next round.
