Musetti Outplays Rune to Reach First Roland-Garros Quarterfinal
The last round of 16 match of the day pitted world No. 7 Lorenzo Musetti against world No. 10 Holger Rune.
The Italian, who has had an outstanding clay-court season (reaching the final in Monte-Carlo and the semifinals in Madrid and Rome), had previously lost both of his encounters against his evening opponent.
More solid in the decisive moments, Musetti ultimately triumphed in four sets (7-5, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2) thanks to impressive efficiency on break points (7/8 converted) and 39 winners.
Securing his first career Roland-Garros quarterfinal and his second Grand Slam quarterfinal after Wimbledon last year, Musetti will face Frances Tiafoe on Tuesday.
