Musetti praises Wawrinka: "Happy to have shared the court with a legend"
Lorenzo Musetti can still believe in his dream of playing in the Masters. The Italian came from behind to beat Stan Wawrinka to reach the quarter-finals of the ATP 250 tournament in Athens.
Musetti kept his ATP Finals qualification chances intact. The world number 9 made a successful start at the ATP 250 tournament in Athens. The number 2 seed managed to escape the trap set by Stan Wawrinka (4-6, 7-6, 6-4 in 2h24).
After coming within two points of defeat against the Swiss in the second-set tie-break, the Italian then found the key to turn the match around against the three-time Grand Slam champion. Five years after their last meeting, Musetti has enormous admiration for Wawrinka.
"I am happy to have shared the court with a legend. He showed impressive tennis and I had to raise my level to win. I hope that at 40, I will be in the same physical condition as him.
I am happy. Everyone knows my goal (to play in the ATP Finals), and I hope I will have the support of the crowd to win the tournament," said Musetti, who will face Alexandre Muller in the quarter-finals, for Tennis World Italia.
