Musetti underwent tests after his withdrawal at Roland-Garros and is likely to withdraw from Queen’s
Lorenzo Musetti had an excellent clay-court season. A finalist in Monte-Carlo, he also reached the semifinals in Madrid and Rome. Then, the Italian confirmed his underdog status at Roland-Garros, where he made it to the semifinals.
Unfortunately, despite a strong start and two impressive sets, he was forced to retire early in the fourth set of his match against Carlos Alcaraz (4-6, 7-6, 6-0, 2-0 ret.). Hampered by a left leg injury, the world No. 6 underwent tests in recent hours.
According to *Tuttosport*, Musetti’s coach, Simone Tartarini, confirmed that the player suffered a grade 1 thigh injury: "The MRI confirmed what the initial tests in Paris had already shown. There are technical recovery timelines, and forcing a return to competition wouldn’t make sense."
As a result, Musetti is expected to withdraw from Queen’s (a tournament where he was the 2024 finalist) to recover and be at 100% for Wimbledon. Last year, Musetti managed to reach the semifinals of the London Grand Slam.
The Italian had secured wins against Lestienne, Darderi, Comesaña, Mpetshi Perricard, and Fritz before falling just short of the final in a tight three-set match against Novak Djokovic.
