"My father can join us by car," Sinner explains his choice to play Halle
In a press conference before his first match in Halle, Sinner discussed his decision to compete in the German tournament instead of Queen’s, which takes place the same week. While the London event seemed more advantageous in terms of location—with Wimbledon happening just days later—the Italian revealed he prefers not to arrive in England too early:
"I don’t like going to London too soon. The Halle tournament is certainly not low-profile. For me, it’s different, given where I come from—it’s special. Maybe if something good happens, my father can come too. It’s quite close to where he lives, so he can join us by car.
There’s a great atmosphere here; they want to see good tennis. They’ve had the best with Federer, but we’re also trying to make this event special, and that’s why people love coming here. I’m happy to be here and to compete in this tournament. I’m almost certain it will be a high-quality event."
Sinner will face Germany’s world No. 138, Hanfmann, in his opening match.
