"My visa application was rejected without reason," Nagal asks for help on social media to participate in an Australian Open qualifying tournament
World number 275, Sumit Nagal, needs to travel to China to participate in a tournament that could allow him to qualify for the Australian Open if he wins the title. But a major administrative issue is currently preventing him from traveling to the country.
A former world number 64, Nagal, aged 28, is now ranked 275th in the ATP rankings. Forced to compete on the Challenger Circuit to climb the rankings, the Indian player is supposed to compete in an Australian Open qualifying tournament starting November 24th in the Sichuan region of southwestern China.
However, for the moment, Nagal cannot travel, jeopardizing his participation in this week-long tournament. The person concerned explained the situation on social media.
"I am Sumit Nagal, India's number one in the ATP tennis rankings. I am supposed to go to China soon to represent India in an Australian Open qualifying tournament. But my visa application was rejected without any reason.
Your urgent help would be greatly appreciated," the player wrote on X (formerly Twitter), mentioning the Chinese Embassy in India and its spokesperson in his post. Over 330 people have replied to his comment trying to help him in recent hours.
