Nadal Honored in Spain: A Historic Distinction for the King of Clay

Retired for nearly a year, Nadal continues to receive tributes worthy of his legacy. His latest, in Salamanca, is simply historic.
It will soon be a year since Rafael Nadal, tennis legend and king of clay, retired. The Spanish champion, who left his mark on the history of the sport as well as his country, continues to be rewarded for his feats.
This Friday, he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Salamanca, becoming the first athlete to receive such a distinction. On his social media, Nadal expressed his gratitude:
"It is a tremendous honor to have been the first athlete to be awarded an honorary doctorate by this university, which has left a profound mark on the culture, society, and thought of Spain.
Thank you to the university and the entire city of Salamanca for the love I have received. This day will forever be etched in my memory and encourages me to remain true to the values that sport has taught me."
