Nadal on Davis Cup: "One of my first great joys".
Rafael Nadal is about to bid farewell to the world of tennis. Having arrived in Málaga, where he will play in the Davis Cup with the Spanish national team, the Spaniard intends to make the most of his last dance.
Asked why he chose to retire to the World Cup of Tennis, 'Rafa' explained: "I'm not sure I'll ever be able to play again. Rafa' explained: "I think it's one of my first great joys.
And perhaps my first great joy as a professional tennis player. I think it was the Davis Cup in 2004, and that's how it happened.
I was given the opportunity and, to be honest with David (Ferrer, the captain), he said he was counting on me. I told him I'd prepare as well as I could and then we'd see. No, I think I can prepare myself more or less well, which is why I'm here.
And then you have to take it one day at a time. I haven't played competitively for a long time and the reality is that I'm looking forward to it, in every way possible."
