Nardi, one year after his victory against Djokovic at Indian Wells: "I am not Luca Nardi, I am the guy who beat Djokovic"
Luca Nardi, ranked 67th in the world, will play his first round at Indian Wells this Wednesday against the 2021 champion Cameron Norrie.
One year after his unexpected victory over Novak Djokovic, the Italian went through a tough period before achieving better results at the start of 2025, including a quarterfinal in Dubai, for example.
Speaking to the ATP website, he reflected on his achievement from last year: "It's a special feeling to come back here. I am not Luca Nardi, I am the guy who beat Novak Djokovic. Maybe they don't know my name, but I am still the guy who beat him.
On match point, I thought I was going to double fault. But instead, I hit an ace. It was crazy to go to the net to shake his hand, knowing that I had won and he had lost. It was something I could never have imagined.
After that match, my game wasn't very good. But by the end of the year and in recent months, I have definitely played better."
