Navarro on the Brink of Elimination Stages Comeback Against Haddad Maia in Queen’s Debut

Seeded No. 3 in London, Navarro escaped the Haddad Maia trap after a thrilling match lasting nearly three hours (1-6, 7-6, 6-3). This comes after a straight-sets defeat (6-0, 6-1) in the first round of Roland-Garros against Bouzas Maneiro.
Struggling early with her serve, the 24-year-old found it difficult to counter the Brazilian’s game, conceding a harsh 1-6 in the first set.
While her opponent was strong on serve, earning 13 break points, she proved too inefficient, converting only four throughout the match. The American ultimately secured her spot in the Queen’s third round after a massive turnaround, having been down 0-1 in sets and 4-5.
Last year, the player had a solid grass-court season, reaching the semifinals in Bad Homburg and the quarterfinals at Wimbledon. Next, she will face the winner of the match between American Anisimova and local favorite Kartal, which will take place shortly after on the Andy Murray Arena.
