"Having him in my box meant a lot to me," Boulter reflects on fiancé De Minaur's presence at Queen’s
Katie Boulter battled through a tough first-round match at Queen’s, defeating Ajla Tomljanovic.
Her performance was closely watched by her fiancé, Alex De Minaur, who had withdrawn from the ’s-Hertogenbosch draw. The British player admitted she appreciated his presence, even if it felt unusual:
"It felt a bit strange. But at the same time, it was amazing because I also have great memories of watching his matches. I realize how much I love the sport when I watch him. Obviously, I have my own connection with Alex, so having him in my box today meant a lot to me.
The fact that he could be here when he wasn’t supposed to be made it even more special. For once, it was a little role reversal. I hope he can be there for many more matches."
Boulter will face Diana Shnaider tomorrow for a spot in the tournament’s quarterfinals.
