New surprise and 18th seed eliminated in the women's draw: Keys knocked out by Siegemund at Wimbledon

This 2025 Wimbledon tournament is completely crazy. Before the start of the third round, in the women's draw, 17 seeds have already bitten the dust, including five players from the top 10.
A rare marquee player surviving this massacre so far, Madison Keys. The American, winner of the Australian Open at the beginning of the season, had managed to reach the round of 32 after victories against Elena-Gabriela Ruse (6-7, 7-5, 7-5) and Olga Danilovic (6-4, 6-2).
For a place in the round of 16, Keys faced Laura Siegemund. Ranked 104th in the world, the 37-year-old German delivered two fine performances at the beginning of the tournament, successively eliminating Peyton Stearns (6-4, 6-2) and Leylah Fernandez (6-2, 6-3).
In a match where numerous breaks occurred (7 in total), Siegemund, the underdog in this match, delivered another outstanding performance to knock out a credible title contender and former two-time semifinalist in London (6-3, 6-3 in 1 hour and 32 minutes).
Siegemund reaches the round of 16 at Wimbledon for the first time in her career, marking another significant upset in the women's draw. Keys, ranked 8th in the world, becomes the sixth player from the top 10 to be eliminated prematurely after Gauff, Pegula, Paolini, Zheng, and Badosa.
Now, 18 seeds in the women's draw have already been defeated, further opening up the section for the world number 1, Aryna Sabalenka. Additionally, at least one seed will be eliminated again this Friday, as Elise Mertens (No. 24) and Elina Svitolina (No. 14) face off for a place in the round of 16.
Siegemund, qualified for the second week, will play against the lucky loser Solana Sierra, who defeated Cristina Bucsa earlier in the day (7-5, 1-6, 6-1), for a place in the quarterfinals.
