Fils Next Gen ATP Finals

The identities of the first four qualifiers for the Next Gen ATP Finals are known. The 2024 edition, to be held in Jeddah from December 18 to 22, promises to be spectacular.

Eight players will battle it out just before the festive season to try and succeed Hamad Medjedovic, who won the title in 2023.

Good news for the French clan: Arthur Fils will be playing in the tournament for the second year running.

Having enjoyed a benchmark season on the circuit with two ATP 500 titles in Hamburg and Tokyo, the 20-year-old, ranked 20th, will have the opportunity to go one better than last year.

The French player did not disappoint, but lost in the final to the Serbian after a fine five-set battle.

Three other players will also be part of the Saudi cast. Jakub Mensik, 19, was one of the revelations of the season, reaching his first final in Doha in February.

The powerful Czech had eliminated Rublev, Murray and Monfils before losing to Khachanov.

Alex Michelsen (20) has made great strides this year, entering the top 50 for the first time in his career last August.

He played in two finals this season, in Newport and Winston-Salem, but lost to Marcos Giron and Lorenzo Sonego respectively.

Finally, 19-year-old Chinese left-hander Shang Juncheng won his first title in Chengdu in September.

To claim the trophy on home soil, he dominated one of the form men of the second half of the season, Lorenzo Musetti.

Only four places remain in this prestigious tournament, which showcases the best young players under 21 on the ATP circuit.
