Next Gen ATP Finals: Learner Tien, the New Star of American Tennis, Clinches the Title in Saudi Arabia!
Designated as the heavy favorite before the start of the competition, Learner Tien lived up to his status at the Next Gen ATP Finals.
An unfortunate runner-up last year against Joao Fonseca, the American returned to Saudi Arabia with the determination, this time, to triumph and become one of the new faces of the 'Next Gen'.
A Final Without Suspense
In the final this Sunday, Tien faced Alexander Blockx, world number 116 and undefeated since the start of the tournament. The 20-year-old Belgian had indeed won all his matches in the group stage before cruising through yesterday's semifinal against Nicolai Budkov Kjaer.
The matchup was therefore enticing, but Tien quickly asserted his superiority by winning without difficulty 4-3, 4-2, 4-1 in 58 minutes of play.
The first left-hander to clinch the Next Gen Masters, the protégé of Michael Chang had revealed himself this season by reaching the round of 16 at the Australian Open before winning, in early November, his very first title in Metz.
