Ningbo: Top Seed Andreeva Eliminated by World No. 219
Following Raducanu, Lin Zhu upset the top seed, Mirra Andreeva, in the second round of the WTA 500 in Ningbo.
It was a scenario few had anticipated. At 31 years old, the Chinese player delivered an exceptional performance to defeat the young circuit sensation, Mirra Andreeva, who is only 18, last year's finalist and this week's top seed. A victory in three sets: 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.
This setback seriously complicates Andreeva's race to the WTA Finals. She must now hope for underperformances from Jasmine Paolini and Elena Rybakina to secure her spot.
On the other hand, Lin Zhu advances to the quarterfinals at home and will face another Russian: Diana Shnaider (19th).
