Nishikori: "I surprised myself".

Le 28/09/2024 à 18h21 par Elio Valotto
Nishikori: I surprised myself.

Kei Nishikori is a player never to be underestimated. Although his body has been in a delicate state for a number of years, the Japanese is nonetheless a top-class player when he's confident and ready for battle.

After a vintage first-round win over Marin Cilic (6-4, 3-6, 6-3), the Japanese gave Jordan Thompson a real tennis lesson on Saturday (6-2, 6-3).

At ease on court and covering his ground as well as in his heyday, Nishikori utterly disgusted an Australian without a solution.

Questioned in the press conference, Nishikori was delighted, admitting he was surprised by his own level: "I think I played a little too well. I surprised myself, and maybe my team is a bit surprised too.

I played really well. Very solid, very focused. That's how I wanted to play.

To play aggressively, without making too many mistakes. It was almost perfect today."
