Nishikori withdraws against Khachanov despite game interruption in Geneva

Kei Nishikori and Karen Khachanov were engaged in a thrilling battle in Geneva on Tuesday evening. During the second round, the Russian and the Japanese were at the end of the second set (7-5 for Khachanov, then 5-2 for Nishikori), before rain temporarily halted the match, which was set to resume this Wednesday noon.

However, the match will ultimately not resume. Nishikori has withdrawn and will not be able to finish his match against Khachanov, who thus qualifies for the quarterfinals on his 29th birthday. He will face the winner of the other postponed match, between Sebastian Ofner and Nuno Borges.
