Opelka: "Allensworth is the worst chair umpire in the ATP".
ATP chair umpire Greg Allensworth is a referee regularly called into question by players and fans alike.
In particular, he was responsible for Denis Shapovalov's disqualification in Washington in 2024 against Ben Shelton, when the Canadian responded to a spectator's provocation.
On Thursday, Reilly Opelka and Cameron Norrie faced off in Dallas. As the American was serving for the match, he became annoyed with an obviously noisy spectator.
Opelka called out to him: "You're doing it on purpose, go inside put***". This remark earned him a penalty point from chair umpire Allensworth.
A decision that the American strongly criticized, and which he mentioned in a post-match interview: "Allensworth is the worst chair umpire in the ATP.
We often talk about it in the locker room. He's really bad, he's the worst."
