Osaka retires after a set against Bencic
This clash between two former members of the top 5, Belinda Bencic and Naomi Osaka, was full of promise.
Unfortunately, it ended in the very first set. Naomi Osaka was forced to retire after suffering another abdominal injury.

She had already given up two weeks earlier, in the Auckland final. The Japanese player could no longer serve properly by pushing on her legs.
Belinda Bencic said in a post-match interview: "I'm really sorry for Naomi. I saw her in trouble at the end of the set.
That's not how you'd like the match to end. It was a good match.
I hope she gets better soon and can play well for the rest of the season."
Bencic will face the winner of the match between Cori Gauff and Leylah Fernandez in the next round.
