Ostapenko shows no mercy against Swiatek to reach Doha final

Playing relentless tennis this week, Jelena Ostapenko gave No.2 Iga Swiatek no chance (6-3, 6-1) to reach the final of the WTA 1000 in Doha.
Buoyed by a string of winning shots, as she did against Jasmine Paolini in the round of 16 and Ons Jabeur in yesterday's quarter-finals, the world No.37 gave Swiatek no time to settle her game on the Doha centre court.
After breaking from the start in both sets, the Latvian showed her solidity to close out the match in just over an hour and eliminate the three-time title holder.
Thanks to this fine victory, her fifth in a row against Swiatek, Ostapenko reaches the final of the event for the first time since 2016, and it is also her first WTA 1000 final since 2018.
She will face the winner of the other semi-final between Ekaterina Alexandrova and Amanda Anisimova.
