Paire Falls Early in Abidjan and Continues Losing Streak
Invited by the organizers of the Abidjan Challenger in Ivory Coast, Benoît Paire, who missed the last two months of competition due to a wrist injury, failed to regain confidence in recent hours.
Facing Estonian player Daniil Glinka, ranked 422nd in the world, the 35-year-old Frenchman fought hard but ultimately fell despite winning the second set (6-4, 5-7, 6-4).
Glinka was ultra-efficient on break points (6 out of 6), frustrating Paire in return, as the Frenchman had more opportunities to break serve but couldn’t capitalize sufficiently (converting only 4 out of 18 break points).
The Estonian will face Taha Baadi in the round of 16, while Paire continues his poor form. With this latest defeat, he extends his current losing streak to five matches.
His last victory dates back to January 21 at the Quimper Challenger, where he defeated Harold Mayot before losing to Ukrainian player Vitaliy Sachko in the following round.
