Paolini Achieves Rare Feat in Both WTA Singles and Doubles Rankings

Currently competing at the WTA 500 tournament in Bad Homburg, Jasmine Paolini made a strong start to her campaign. Seeded second in Germany, the recent Wimbledon finalist defeated Leylah Fernandez in two tightly contested sets (7-6, 7-6).
For a spot in the semifinals, she will face either Elina Svitolina or Beatriz Haddad Maia, who are set to clash this Wednesday. Even before stepping onto the grass courts of Bad Homburg this week, Paolini received fantastic news.
Still ranked No. 4 in singles, the 29-year-old Italian has also broken into the doubles top 5 for the first time in her career. Partnering frequently with Sara Errani this season, the two-time WTA 1000 champion is currently the only player on tour (men or women) to be ranked in the top 5 in both singles and doubles simultaneously in the same week.
As reported by Tennis Channel, she becomes the fifth player born in 1990 or later to achieve this feat, following Aryna Sabalenka (10 weeks in 2021), Barbora Krejcikova (36 weeks between 2021 and 2022), Jessica Pegula (52 weeks total between 2022 and 2024), and Coco Gauff (24 weeks spread between 2022 and 2024).
In recent weeks, Paolini and Errani claimed their first Grand Slam title together at Roland Garros, nearly a year after winning Olympic gold in women’s doubles on the same Parisian courts.
