Paolini at Wimbledon as well as Roland Garros?
Jasmine Paolini had never got further than second place in a Grand Slam before the start of the 2024 season. She had already done much better at the Australian Open, reaching the Round of 16.
And she's not stopping there. On Thursday, she will play in her second consecutive Grand Slam semi-final, after reaching the final at Roland Garros last month. The Italian outclassed Emma Navarro in the Wimbledon quarter-finals on Tuesday.
She was not expected to be the favorite against the American, who had won all three of their previous meetings. But she belied the predictions and proved ruthless, winning in just 57 minutes and two sets (6-2, 6-1).
Paolini will be looking to match her performance on the Paris clay court. To do so, she'll have to get past Donna Vekic, who put an end to New Zealand's Lulu Sun's magnificent run earlier in the afternoon.
