Vekic's first Grand Slam semi-final: "Without them, I wouldn't be here".
She's waited a long time. Professional since 2012, Donna Vekic has finally reached the semi-finals of a Grand Slam tournament.
At 28 years of age, the Croatian did very well to take advantage of a rather favorable draw. Taking down Yastremska (7-6, 6-7, 6-1) then Badosa (6-2, 1-6, 6-4), she managed to put an end to Lulu Sun's dream run on Tuesday (5-7, 6-4, 6-1).
Asked about her qualification for the semi-finals, where Jasmine Paolini awaits her, Vekic made no secret of her delight: "It was a tough match. She played very well. She pushed me to my limits. I hope you enjoyed it. I felt like I was dying in the first two sets. She played so well.
I kept going, hoping for an opportunity. And it came at the end. I've got a cubicle full of people there. Without them, I wouldn't be here.
Not just in tennis, but in life, things can change very quickly. Never give up. It's not always easy, but I think I've had to dig deep inside myself and push myself.
If I hadn't had the team of people around me, I don't know how I would have found the strength within myself."
