Paolini creates a sensation against Rybakina at Roland Garros!
Jasmine Paolini is in the semi-finals of the French Open! The Italian has created a huge surprise on Court Philippe Chatrier, dominating world No. 4 Elena Rybakina in three sets (6-2, 4-6, 6-4) at the end of a magnificent 2-hour battle. At 28, the world's 15th-ranked player reaches the last four of a Grand Slam tournament for the very first time in her career.
Paolini's nerves were strong enough to keep on attacking Rybakina, forcing her to move around too much for the Kazakh to be able to deliver the full power and precision of her ball-strikes. Even when the battle hardened and she conceded the 2nd set, the Italian didn't collapse mentally; she continued to apply her tactical plan perfectly. The result was a superb clash of styles and a fantastic battle. What a match!
In Thursday's semi-finals, Paolini will face the winner of the final women's quarter-final, which will now pit world No.2 Aryna Sabalenka against young Russian prodigy Mirra Andreeva.
