Paolini First to Reach Quarterfinals in Miami

Jasmine Paolini emerged victorious from her clash against Naomi Osaka in the Round of 16 at the WTA 1000 Miami Open (3-6, 6-4, 6-4).
The world No. 7 was initially overwhelmed in the first set by the powerful strikes of the Japanese player, who seemed to be in top form.
Despite a high number of unforced errors (23) in the opening set, Paolini managed to turn things around early in the second by breaking Osaka’s serve—enough to level the match at one set apiece.
The decisive set was tightly contested, but it was ultimately Osaka who cracked first, losing her serve at 2-2. Although Paolini won fewer points overall (97 to 101), she held her nerve to secure her fourth career WTA 1000 quarterfinal.
The win is sure to boost her confidence, as she had not won three consecutive matches since last year’s US Open. She will now compete for a spot in the semifinals against either Coco Gauff or Magda Linette.
