Paolini, Qualified for Doubles Final with Errani, Still Dreams of Double Triumph in Rome
Everything is going well for Jasmine Paolini in Rome. After a tough start to the season, the Italian, ranked world No. 5, has found her rhythm since officially teaming up with her new coach, Marc Lopez. A semifinalist in Miami and Stuttgart, Paolini will compete in the WTA 1000 Rome final this Saturday afternoon on home soil.
She will face Coco Gauff for the singles title, but she can still dream of a double triumph, as she has also qualified for the doubles final with her regular partner, Sara Errani.
Facing the Russian pair of Mirra Andreeva and Diana Shnaider, the two Italian players secured a straight-sets victory (6-4, 6-4) on Friday and will now battle for the title.
To achieve this, they will have to overcome either the pair of Veronika Kudermetova/Elise Mertens or Storm Hunter/Ellen Perez. As a result, Paolini remains in contention to win both singles and doubles this year in Rome.
While Errani and Paolini, the defending champions, aim for a second consecutive crown in the Eternal City, Diana Shnaider—who was already eliminated in the singles quarterfinals by Paolini—suffered the same fate in doubles alongside Mirra Andreeva.
