Paul after his defeat: I should have won the first two sets.

Tommy Paul appeared in the press conference after his defeat to Alexander Zverev. While he served for the set in the first two sets, he eventually lost both of them in a tie-break.

The American spoke of his regrets: "He raised his game in the important moments, while mine dropped.

I did a good job at the start, but my number of unforced errors was too high today (56). I saw the stats during the match, looked up and saw 40 unforced errors after two or two and a half sets.

You can't do that when you're playing the number 2 player in the world in a Grand Slam. Losing always sucks, but there are good things to remember.

I served well for two sets and then won the third. I just should have won those sets. That's what the best players do. I thought I returned his serve well.

I put myself in a position to win the first three sets. His first serve percentage was lower than usual (69%) so I had more opportunities.

That high percentage is what most frustrates the players who play him. He's done an incredible job over the last few years.

He must have one of the highest percentages on the circuit. But that's not what cost me the game."
