Pegula complains about conditions on Rod Laver Arena: "It was slower than on clay".
Jessica Pegula was eliminated in the 3rd round of the Australian Open by the surprising Olga Danilovic, even though she had been pretty solid since the start of the tournament.
A disappointing performance for the American, a finalist at the last US Open, who seems to be struggling in Melbourne, having been eliminated in the 2nd round last year.
In a press conference after her defeat, Pegula explained that she didn't feel comfortable on Rod Laver Arena: "The playing conditions were so slow. It was slower than on clay.
The balls were heavy and that totally favored her, especially when she hit a forehand towards my backhand.
It's not even the same tournament as my 1st round on John Cain Arena. During the day, on this court, it's fast. Playing there at night, it's not the same at all.
It's tough, but everyone has to deal with it. Some people deal with it better than others. I prefer it when it's fast, I think everyone on the circuit knows that."
