Pegula Discusses Her Final Against Sabalenka: "She's a Bit Better Than Me"
Jessica Pegula secured her spot in the Miami WTA 1000 final by defeating Alexandra Eala. She will face Aryna Sabalenka in an attempt to claim the title.
During the post-match press conference, she shared her thoughts on her Belarusian opponent: "I feel like I’m one of the best on hard courts, even though Aryna is a bit better than me—at least in terms of results, since she’s won the Australian Open and the US Open, and she also beat me in Cincinnati.
It’s going to be tough, but I hope to bring out the best in myself—that would be amazing. I’m proud to be facing one of the best hard-court players again, especially in a WTA 1000 final.
I’m super excited about how the year has started. I’ve always felt like I could win this tournament; I’ve consistently gone deep and gotten good results. Sometimes you just have that feeling at a tournament, and this one is a perfect example."
