Sabalenka learns from her failures: "I think I've learned to focus on myself"
Aryna Sabalenka is coming off two final losses, at Indian Wells and the Australian Open. Despite being the favorite in both finals, the Belarusian was defeated and attributes these losses to focusing too much on her opponents.
She will face Jessica Pegula in Miami, a match where she is once again the favorite. In a press conference after her win against Jasmine Paolini, she reflected on these two defeats: "I felt really good in Australia.
It’s not about how I felt, it’s about adapting to different conditions. As for the lessons, I think I’ve learned to focus on myself and not on what’s happening on the other side of the net.
Sometimes, players come onto the court with nothing to lose, unleashing incredible shots. In those finals, I was more focused on my opponent than on myself.
I think I need to have the same attitude, the same mentality as today. This time, I’ll do better than in the last two finals."
