Pegula gives Swiatek no chance and reaches the semi-finals!
Iga Swiatek had rarely been so dominated.
After a number of reassuring victories, the world number 1 came up short against Jessica Pegula, who was as impressive as ever (6-2, 6-4 in 1h28).
Having lost momentum since the French Open, the Polish player was under the rule of her opponent throughout the match.
Often unable to make the difference in the exchange, Swiatek proved to be highly inaccurate, making 40 unforced errors.
On the other side of the court, the world number 6 once again relied on the confidence she had built up since the beginning of August.
Very solid in the exchange, impactful on both serve and return, and striking the right balance between aggression and consistency, Pegula notched up her 14th win in 15 matches and will now be playing in her third consecutive semi-final (after Toronto and Cincinnati).
To reach the final at Flushing Meadows, she will face an equally in-form Karolina Muchava.
