Pegula joins Keys in a 100% American final in Adelaide
Jessica Pegula is already fighting for a title in 2025. Seeded number 1 in Adelaide, the American was playing in her first tournament of the season, two months after injuring her knee at the WTA Finals.
The world's 7th-ranked player had played flawlessly up to this point, maintaining her unbeaten record against Yulia Putintseva.
The Kazakh, who will be ranked 23rd in the world on Monday (the highest ranking of her career), fought hard but eventually succumbed in two sets (7-6, 6-3).
This was Pegula's third win in as many matches against Putintseva.
Pegula will be playing for the 7th title of her career. To do so, she will have to overcome her compatriot Madison Keys.
Always dangerous on hard court, the 20th-ranked player in the world and 2017 US Open finalist took advantage of Liudmila Samsonova's withdrawal as she took the lead in the third set (5-7, 7-5, 3-0 ab).
The two compatriots have met twice in their careers. Pegula won the first in San Diego in 2022, but Keys got her revenge at the US Open 2023, winning cleanly in the Round of 16 (6-1, 6-3).
