Planque on Pouille: "He lived things so intensely that it almost scared him".
Emmanuel Planque, current coach of Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, was also Lucas Pouille's coach from 2012 to 2018.
With Pouille, the French coach has experienced almost everything. Following his injury, Planque spoke to Eurosport about Pouille: "I've never experienced such an intense relationship with any other player, and yet I've known some intense players.
But with Lucas, we were really in the extreme. He's an intelligent person, very deep and, at the same time, very complex.
It wasn't always easy to work with him, but it was always very rich.
What we experienced together is something that continues to serve me today, both in my work and in my everyday life.
Lucas generated a lot of tension, because he was so impatient to get there. The competition was therefore very costly for him.
I remember our first match on the pro circuit, at a Future in Serbia: I'd never felt so much tension on the court!
By the end, I was sweating like I'd just played.
We worked a lot on that. We also worked on his relationship with mistakes, because he's someone who can make himself sick when he misses.
In fact, he lived things so intensely that it almost scared him."
