"Playing against the best doesn't worry me," Tiafoe shows ambition
Frances Tiafoe has qualified for the Roland-Garros quarterfinals for the first time in his career after defeating Daniel Altmaier without dropping a single set.
In the post-match press conference, the American appeared confident and ambitious. He stated: "I think the difference between me and the top players depends on the day. I don’t think it’s about the big players.
It’s about all the players. If you take my opponent, I feel much more comfortable against those who are better than me rather than the others. I’m more reliable, and I don’t lose to those guys every week, but I lose to all the others.
Playing against the best doesn’t worry me. They don’t scare me. I don’t really feel like their level is so much better than mine.
I know what I’m capable of on certain days, but winning matches like today’s gives me a huge boost of confidence. Since this has always been my Achilles’ heel, I’m really happy about it right now, right here."
Tiafoe will face Lorenzo Musetti in the Roland-Garros quarterfinals.
