After reaching the 3rd round of the Australian Open, where she was soundly beaten by Iga Swiatek, Emma Raducanu was knocked out in the 1st round at the WTA 250 in Singapore on Monday.
Playing against Cristina Bucsa, the 2021 US Open winner was defeated after a three-hour battle (5-7, 7-5, 7-5) in which there were numerous breaks (17 in all).
After coming through in the first set, Raducanu came within two points of victory in the second (7-5, 5-4, 30-30).
Without a coach for several days, she will have some important choices to make after this defeat.
In the next round, Bucsa will play Mananchaya Sawangkaew from Thailand, who won her 1st round match against Sijia Wei (6-4, 7-6).
