Rakotomanga, Lucky Loser in Guangzhou, Claims Another Top 100 Win in First Round

Tiantsoa Rakotomanga Rajaonah had suffered a heavy defeat (6-2, 6-2) in the final round of qualifying at the Guangzhou tournament against Lulu Sun.

But luck smiled on the Frenchwoman, who was added to the main draw due to a withdrawal.

She faced Polina Kudermetova in the first round. The match started with the French player quickly overwhelmed by the Russian, who handed her a 6-1 loss in just 22 minutes of play.

But Rakotomanga did not let herself be discouraged and managed to turn the situation around: thanks to breaks in the 4th and 6th games, she secured the second set with a score of 6-1.

The decisive set started at the same pace for the Frenchwoman thanks to an early break. Despite a narrowing of the lead, Kudermetova was broken again, and the Frenchwoman won 1-6, 6-1, 6-2.

She will face Katarzyna Kawa or Katie Volynets in the second round.
