Rinderknech Eliminated by Gigante in the First Round of Rome
Rinderknech fell to Gigante in straight sets (7-6, 7-6) during the first round of the Rome tournament. Invited by the organizers, the Italian defeated the world No. 75 in 2 hours and 12 minutes of play.
Locked in a tight battle throughout the match, the two players had to settle the first set—and then the second—in tie-breaks. Gigante won both with a score of 7-4.
Inconsistent in his shots (31 unforced errors), Rinderknech failed to capitalize on the opportunities that came his way, converting only one of eight break points. This marks his sixth defeat on clay this season in ten matches.
The Italian advances to the second round, where he will face Mensik.
