Rinderknech Ousted by Fucsovics in Stuttgart Round of 16

Arthur Rinderknech couldn’t keep the momentum going in Stuttgart. After a promising win against Denis Shapovalov in his opening match (6-4, 2-6, 6-0), the Frenchman faced Marton Fucsovics on Wednesday morning in the round of 16. Unfortunately for the world No. 81, he couldn’t replicate his performance against the Canadian.
The Hungarian, ranked 112th and coming through qualifying, proved as tricky as ever to handle, especially on grass. Following his first-round victory over Yannick Hanfmann (7-5, 6-4), Fucsovics was ultra-efficient against Rinderknech, converting the only break point of the match in the second set to secure a straight-sets win (7-6, 6-3).
Despite a tight first set, the 29-year-old couldn’t gain the upper hand and ultimately lost the tiebreak 7-4. In the end, Fucsovics, more solid in rallies (31 winners, including 11 aces, and only 11 unforced errors), deservedly clinched the victory.
He becomes the first player to advance to the quarterfinals in Stuttgart and will face the winner of the match between Taylor Fritz and Quentin Halys. This marks the fourth time in his career that the Hungarian has reached this stage in the German city, after 2019, 2022, and 2023.
He will now aim to reach the semifinals for the second time in his career, following his 2023 run, where Frances Tiafoe ended his campaign. Back then, he had also come through qualifying.
