Roddick advises Shelton: "There's only one way to beat Sinner".
The Australian Open is drawing to a close. In his podcast, Andy Roddick analyzes the players' performances.
Ahead of the semi-final between Jannik Sinner and Ben Shelton, the former world number 1 described what the 22-year-old would need to do to cause Sinner problems, after Shelton had lost four of their previous five encounters.
"Ben Shelton needs to repeatedly take big risks in the match if he is to have any chance of creating problems for the world number 1.
Jannik Sinner will try to insist on Shelton's backhand repeatedly.
Ben must try to shorten exchanges as much as possible, and sometimes take risks whenever he sees an opportunity to be aggressive.
For him, this is the strategy to adopt, and there's only one way to beat a player like Sinner. The Italian's latest performances elevate him to the status of one of the greatest tennis players of all time.
He'll have to offer something different to what Alex De Minaur, for example, has been able to do. That's not to say, however, that the Australian isn't a great player.
You see a lot of comments from people after this match saying that it was far too easy for Sinner.
There are also those who say De Minaur is a lousy guy. To me, that's incomprehensible. He's number 8 in the world in a popular sport and at the top of the rankings.
He's a good fighter and a good athlete, and he's really smart. The problem is that he doesn't stand a chance against Sinner," concluded Roddick.
Funny nothing about just play better defense against Sinner than he playing against you.
