Roddick Reflects on His Painful Defeats at Wimbledon: I Was So in Love With That Tournament

A three-time finalist at the legendary Wimbledon tournament (2004, 2005, 2009), Andy Roddick fell to one and the same opponent: Roger Federer. The Swiss, a true nemesis for the American, also defeated him at the US Open in 2006.

In an interview shared by Tennis Up To Date, the former world number one revealed how he experienced these disappointments:

"My life today, beyond how people view a career, probably wouldn’t be different if I had won Wimbledon. Nevertheless, I was—and still am—so in love with that tournament that it would have filled my heart to have been part of it as one of them, meaning one of the champions. It would have made me infinitely humble.

When I lost in the finals in 2004 and 2005, I was almost certain I’d get another chance. And then there’s Roger, and it’s different all over again. It’s like trying to outlast a rainstorm you know will never stop, right? And unfortunately, I’m just not fast enough."
