Roland-Garros 2025: Ceremony for Mary Pierce's 25th Anniversary Title Victory, Scheduled for Thursday, Postponed
In 2000, Mary Pierce won Roland-Garros against Conchita Martinez (6-2, 7-5). It was a sweet revenge for the French player, who had lost the final of the same Grand Slam in 1994 to Arantxa Sanchez (before losing another in 2005 to Justine Henin).
Since then, no Frenchwoman has triumphed at Porte d’Auteuil. To celebrate the 25th anniversary of her Paris title, Roland-Garros—which has decided to go all out on tributes this year—had planned a ceremony in honor of Mary Pierce during the tournament's fortnight. However, it will ultimately not take place in 2025.
As L’Équipe reports, the ceremony was set to occur this Thursday, June 5, between the first and second women’s singles semifinals. But the former world No. 3 player will not be able to attend the tribute due to personal reasons.
