Rune defeats Medvedev and secures his first final at Indian Wells!
Holger Rune is the first player to qualify for the Indian Wells Masters 1000 final, after defeating Daniil Medvedev (7-5, 6-4), the finalist of the last two editions, in the semifinals this Saturday.
Rune, riding the momentum of his victories against Humbert, Tsitsipas, and then Griekspoor, once again delivered excellent tennis on the center court of the Californian tournament.
The first set was very evenly contested, with Rune securing the first break of the match at 2-2. Although he gave it back immediately, the Dane was already showing dominance in the rallies.
Trailing 4-3, he had to save a break point on his serve before winning seven of the next nine games to lead 7-5, 3-1.
Medvedev made a final push, leading 0-30 when Rune served for the match, but the world No. 13 stayed composed enough to win the next four points and secure his fourth Masters 1000 final of his career.
At 21 years old, he will attempt to win his second title in the category tomorrow against Jack Draper or Carlos Alcaraz.
