Ruud Advances to Rome Quarterfinals After Another Berrettini Withdrawal

Riding the momentum of his Madrid title, Casper Ruud continues his strong run in Rome. The Norwegian benefited from Matteo Berrettini's withdrawal early in the second set (7-5, 2-0) to secure his spot in the quarterfinals.
The battle lasted just one set, with Berrettini putting up a strong fight in front of his home crowd. However, on his third set-point opportunity, Ruud managed to take control. Just two games later, the Italian was forced to retire due to physical discomfort.
Two weeks after withdrawing in Madrid due to abdominal pain, Berrettini’s body once again let him down. He left the court in tears, and Ruud, ever the sportsman, wrote on the camera: "Sorry Matteo. Hope you feel better soon!"
Ruud will now compete for a spot in the Italian tournament’s semifinals against Jaume Munar.
