Ruud joins Djokovic for a rematch of the 2023 French Open final!
Casper Ruud came from behind to defeat Taylor Fritz in the last 16 of the French Open on Monday. He won in 4 sets (7-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2) after a three-and-a-half-hour battle on the Court Suzanne Lenglen. This means he'll be playing in the quarter-finals for the third year running. He will meet Novak Djokovic on Wednesday for a rematch of last year's final.
His match against Fritz could have been one of missed opportunities for Ruud, who converted just 5 break points out of 27, compared with 4 out of 12 for his opponent. But the Norwegian had enough of a margin over the American to allow himself to be ineffective without too many unfortunate consequences.
In the quarter-finals, Ruud will face Djokovic having won their last meeting, on clay no less. It was in the semi-finals of the Monte-Carlo Masters 1000 just under two months ago (6-4, 1-6, 6-4).
