Djokovic remains mysterious: I have no explanation.

Just as he did against Lorenzo Musetti in the 3rd round, Novak Djokovic once again came out on top when he was thought to be in perdition. To add to the drama, the Serb also appeared to have injured his right knee against Francisco Cerundolo in Monday's Round of 16 match.

With three physio sessions apparently making no difference, the world No. 1 was no longer able to move properly and, resigned to the situation, gave the impression of no longer being able to push off his right leg. Defeat seemed almost inevitable when he found himself trailing 2 sets to 1 and a break behind in the 4th set (6-1, 5-7, 3-6, 2-4). But Djokovic, who doesn't do anything like everyone else, suddenly regained all his physical strength and all his will to win, and finally came out on top.

After his victory, we were hoping to find out a little more about the state of his knee. But the Serb didn't broach the subject with Mats Wilander. He simply thanked the spectators for their support, explaining that this was what had enabled him to find the resources to win the match.

Novak Djokovic (to the audience, in French): "Once again, I'm speaking French. Because I have to say another big thank you, because as in the last match (against Lorenzo Musetti), victory is your victory. It really is.

In the last match, I was 2 sets to 1 for Musetti, and in the 4th set, at 2 games all, the energy on the court changed completely. You've given me a lot of support, and tonight too. So thank you very much.

What can I say? I was maybe 3 or 4 points away from losing this match today. And a big congratulations to Francisco (Cerundolo) for playing at such a high level. He deserves the applause, that's for sure.

After that, how did I find the means to win today? I don't really know. The only explanation I have is you (the spectators). Thank you for your support. Thank you very much!"

Why would anyone fake an injury up a set (6-1)and 1-2 in second

Nonsense

If the physio rubbed down his knee 3 times with a gel full of lidocaine that could have eventually numbed the pain. If it's a muscle issue he could be ready to go for the next match. If it's in the joint it's more questionable.

Omnipresent cameras, line judges on the verge of extinction, mistakes that persist nonetheless: technology fascinates as much as it divides. Tennis, at a crossroads, is still searching for its balance between progress and emotion.

As we move to the end of this month and also closing out the year I am wishing all of those following me a Merry Christmas and a Happy/Healthy New Year.

Let's make that wish for all 2000 plus players hoping for 5 wins each day. Hoping ŵhen we open the results page to see all green, and no red. And especially NO CANCELED matches.

From me and my rotti JAZ, I bid you all good night, and see you in...

why did tennis tonic void predictions on the match between Chwalinska and Huergo at the Quito tournament? The match was played to completion and on time. If TT feels the match is one sided, and of course it was, then don't put it up for prediction. This is getting irritating.

The finals are here, and we scramble for the best finish. I've been chasing "King" all year and I was able to shrink the spread a little. Skelp is also closing the gap.

Seasons best to all the regulars in our league.

Will you all be back in the new year.?

Steffi Graf completed a Golden Slam (not just a career Grand Slam) when she was 19. She is the only person to accomplish that, winning the four majors plus Olympic gold the same calendar year.
