Ruud Reacts to Rune's Injury: "It's the Kind of Injury You Can't Control"

Casper Ruud, who qualified for the final of the ATP 250 Stockholm tournament, reacted to Holger Rune's likely serious injury.

The Stockholm tournament final will pit Casper Ruud against Ugo Humbert this Sunday. In the first semifinal, the Frenchman benefited from Holger Rune's withdrawal. While the Dane had won the first set and leveled at 2-2 in the second, the world No. 11 felt a sudden pain in his ankle.

Unable to walk and in tears on his chair, the 22-year-old player is suffering from an Achilles tendon rupture according to his mother. A few hours later, Ruud reacted to Rune's injury, discussing the grueling pace of the schedule. In recent days, the Norwegian had already criticized the new 12-day format of the Masters 1000 tournaments.

"Holger (Rune)'s injury is very tough. It looks very serious, and even though I know he's going to have tests tomorrow (Sunday), I heard that he himself heard a particular sound, which is a very bad sign.

It's the kind of injury you can't control, so it's extremely unfortunate. Tennis is a brutal sport, and when you're a tennis player, the last thing you want is to miss several months of competition.
