Ruud still believes: "The Grand Slam is the ultimate goal".
Since September 2021, Casper Ruud has been an established Top 10 player. He has never once left this prestigious circle, testifying to his remarkable consistency at the highest level of world tennis.
He has reached three Grand Slam finals, including two at Roland Garros on his preferred surface. In an interview with We are Tennis, Casper Ruud spoke of his ambitions: "I'd say that winning a Grand Slam is my greatest goal, my greatest dream.
In 2022, I almost became number 1 in the world. You know, if you think about it, I think that if Carlos Alcaraz had lost to Sinner at the US Open with a match point against him, and I had reached the semi-finals or the final, I would have become world number 1.
I'd feel bad, in a way, to be number one in the world without having won a Grand Slam. So I think the Grand Slams are the most important thing, and I'd like them to come first.
But of course, when I think about it afterwards, I wouldn't hate to have been world number 1 either, but I mean, for me, the Grand Slam is the ultimate goal, the dream, and I'm glad I haven't won it yet.
I'd have liked to have won it maybe two years ago or when I had the chance, but it's still something I'm pursuing and may pursue for the rest of my career without achieving it.
I hope one day I'll be there again and have the chance to play a match to win one."
