Sabalenka about her number 1 ranking: "I feel like my life is not a waste of time"
Aryna Sabalenka won the Madrid tournament this Saturday. A victory that allows her to further increase her lead over Iga Swiatek, which will be about 4300 points next Monday.
In a press conference after her final, the Belarusian spoke about her world number 1 ranking. She declares: "It's crazy for me. I have worked my whole life for this goal, and being at the top of the ranking means a lot to me.
I feel like my life is not a waste of time and that I am where I should be. It took a lot of work, but I am so happy today to be one of the best players and to have such a beautiful trophy.
Moreover, I always look forward to coming to Madrid; I love this court and the support I receive here. Every year, I return here and feel even more support. This year, it was incredible at every game.
It gives me a boost of energy and the desire to fight. Seeing all the banners carried by the young people is a dream come true, and playing in front of this crowd is something I truly appreciate. I think it's the most beautiful thing in the world."
