Sabalenka Jokes About Her Birthday: "If the Restaurant Isn’t Booked, I’ll Be Really Depressed"
Aryna Sabalenka won the WTA 1000 Madrid title on Saturday night, her ninth title in this tournament category and her third in the Spanish capital. On May 5, the Belarusian will celebrate her 27th birthday and has already made a statement by giving herself a nice gift a few hours early by defeating Coco Gauff in the final (6-3, 7-6).
After her victorious final, the current world No. 1 was asked what she planned to do on Monday. While she should begin preparing for the Rome tournament, which starts next week, Sabalenka joked, sending an indirect message to her team members.
"If the restaurant isn’t booked, I’ll be really depressed. And the rest of my team will suffer too. Everyone will suffer—just so they know! For my birthday, I want lots of flowers, lots of gifts, and less training. That’s what I wish for," she quipped to the media outlet Championship.
